Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is proud to announce that Hsiao-Chuan Teng, a music teacher at Shadow Oaks Elementary School, has been honored with the Asia Society Texas Y. Ping Sun Educator Award.
This accolade recognizes exceptional educators who have made significant contributions to global learning and intercultural understanding.
Ms. Teng is being celebrated as an Intercultural Bridge Builder, an honor that reflects her commitment to integrating global perspectives into her teaching. Along with this recognition, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship for Asia Society Texas resources and a $1,000 cash award.
"As a music teacher, I love introducing my students to the vibrant tapestry of cultures through songs, instrumental music, traditional dance, and personal stories," said Teng. "This journey is not just about learning; it's about fostering understanding and appreciation for the diverse beauty around us."
Principal Mandy Antolini expressed her admiration for Ms. Teng, stating, “Walking into her classroom is truly a joy. Our students are fully engaged in music, and just last week, she had our second graders waltzing! Ms. Teng creates a dynamic learning environment that fosters creativity and connection.”
Looking ahead, the Shadow Oaks community is excited about several upcoming performances, including the first-ever Veteran’s Day celebration, a drama club showcase, and winter performances hosted by our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
“We are fortunate to have Ms. Teng. She is truly dedicated to providing Every Child with beautiful musical experiences,” Principal Antolini added.
Ms. Teng and her fellow awardees were honored at an awards dinner on Wednesday, October 9.
Congratulations to Ms. Teng on this recognition! Thank you for shaping the future at Shadow Oaks Elementary School.
