Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is pleased to announce that Shelby Rushing, a kindergarten teacher at Memorial Drive Elementary (MDE), is the May 2025 recipient of the Teachers Driving Success Award.
Sponsored by Group 1 Automotive, the award recognizes educators who go above and beyond to inspire student achievement and create meaningful, engaging learning experiences.
Rushing was presented with a $300 gift card and a gift basket in honor of her outstanding contributions to MDE. Her principal’s nomination praised her imaginative and engaging teaching style, noting: “From transforming the kindergarten classrooms into ‘operating rooms’ for vowel surgery to ensuring special moments are captured and shared with families, Shelby truly brings fun and excitement to learning,” said MDE Principal Thayer Hutcheson.
Outside the classroom, Rushing recently purchased a new home and is known for her love of Starbucks — little things that bring joy amid her dedication to education.
