Spotlight: David Bender named Associate Superintendent of Finance

Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is proud to announce David Bender as the district’s new Associate Superintendent for Finance, following the retirement of longtime leader Christine A. Porter.

A familiar and respected leader within SBISD, Bender brings more than a decade of district experience and a strong background in school finance, strategic planning, and operational leadership. Since joining the district in 2011 as Controller, he has overseen budget, accounting, payroll, treasury, accounts payable, and financial analysis.

During his time in SBISD, Bender has strengthened budgeting and long-term financial planning, improved payment and purchasing systems, supported major district projects, and helped campuses maintain strong financial practices. His work has centered on creating efficient, transparent processes and making sure district resources are used wisely to best serve students and staff.

In his new role, Bender will lead the district’s financial operations and continue aligning resources to support student success, staff excellence, and long-term sustainability. His expertise in budgeting, debt management, state funding, compliance, and strategic planning positions him to guide SBISD through this important transition.

“David’s leadership, integrity, and deep understanding of our district make him the right person to continue moving SBISD forward,” said Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Blaine. “We are grateful for Christine Porter’s tremendous service and excited for David to build on that strong legacy.”

A Certified Public Accountant and Registered Texas School Business Administrator, Bender holds both a Master in Professional Accounting and a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin. He also serves as a mentor for students at Spring Woods High School (SWHS) through Collegiate Challenge, helping support their path to higher education and future success.

Please join us in congratulating David Bender as he steps into this new leadership role and continues helping shape the future of SBISD.
