Spreading love and hope: SBISD School Nutrition Services ignites a spark for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Spring Branch ISD School Nutrition Services didn't just show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, they ignited a spark in their students and staff to spread love and hope to patients fighting the disease.

Through their creative partnership with elementary, middle and high schools, the team designed stunning giant cards measuring 48 inches by 36 inches where well-wishers and messages of hope were penned down by students and staff members.

Their passionate efforts did not end there. The Houston Methodist Breast Cancer Center representative, Jane Slusher Povey, received the beautiful messages on October 30th, and it was clear how excited and grateful she was to deliver them to patients. The power of these heartfelt gestures was overwhelming and demonstrated just how important community support is to those who are battling cancer.

Thank you to SBISD School Nutrition Services staff for their empathy and service-mindedness. By taking the initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer, they demonstrated true leadership, and inspired students to follow in their footsteps.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time for promoting education, supporting research, and spreading awareness of the disease.

Pink ribbons are known worldwide as the symbol of breast cancer awareness and wearing them shows support to all who have been affected by the disease.

"The entire SNS team has remained supportive throughout this month as team members understood the goal of getting involved in bringing awareness to everyone at each campus," said Michael Francis, Director of School Nutrition Services. "In addition, every day for breakfast this month SNS offered strawberry milk, and each Friday this month staff were tasked to wear our brand-new pink breast cancer awareness spirit shirt to show even more support."

SBISD School Nutrition Services and students showed just how big a difference we can make by working together. They brought hope to patients' hearts and touched them with love. Let's all continue to raise awareness for this crucial cause and let us never stop spreading hope. Together we can beat breast cancer!
