Celebrating 20 years of impact

The Spring Branch Education Foundation (SBEF) has been a major partner supporting the students and staff of Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) since its founding in 1993.

The Foundation was the first underwriting sponsor for the district’s Good Neighbor program, which is strengthened by the contributions of time, service, and resources from individuals, businesses, non-profits, faith-based organizations, and other community partners.

Together, these efforts build lasting connections and encourage the entire community to support SBISD campuses, staff, and students.

“When our community stands with our schools, we ensure that our students have the resources they need to succeed,” said CeCe Thompson, executive director. “Being a Good Neighbor is one of the most rewarding ways to give back, and I believe it comes back to you in so many ways.”

Created to support technology initiatives across the district, the Foundation was founded by Dr. Hal Gutherie, who served as superintendent of SBISD from 1986 to 2002. Since then, its impact has grown to include nearly every aspect of student success, from scholarships and grants to classroom support and providing school supplies to disadvantaged students through what Thompson describes as the Foundation’s “crown jewel,” the Project School Supplies, an annual drive to raise funds to provide school supplies for SBISD students in need.

“Everything we do is for and about the kids who attend our schools,” said CeCe. “Our efforts help ensure Every Child has a path toward success, whether they choose to earn a technical certification, join the military, or pursue a college degree.”

In addition to providing grants to support the district’s SpringBoard Mentoring Program, Reading Buddies and Project School Supplies that encourage community engagement and support for our schools, the Foundation also supports initiatives like THRIVE, which is designed to grow and retain highly qualified teachers from within the SBISD community, including current employees in non-teaching roles. Doing so ensures that innovative approaches and opportunities are accessible to all students, staff, and families in SBISD.

As an organization whose sole purpose is to support the district, the Foundation helps ensure the resources are in place to cultivate the district’s Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate—developing students as critical thinkers, communicators, collaborators, contributors, and lifelong learners.

Looking ahead, SBEF is focused on expanding awareness of its programs among families while continuing to champion innovative initiatives that meet the evolving needs of students and educators. With its deep roots in the district and continued commitment to excellence, the Foundation remains a powerful force in ensuring that every SBISD student can learn, grow, and thrive.
