As the fall sports season draws to a close, Spring Branch ISD teams and athletes continue to shine on the courts and cross country fields.

Volleyball

The Memorial High School Mustangs and Stratford High School Spartans volleyball teams continued their strong seasons with Round 1 wins in the 6A Regions 3 and 4 area playoffs. Memorial dominated Carnegie Vanguard High School in a 3-0 victory on Nov. 2, and Stratford powered past Heights High School in a 3-0 win to advance to the second round.

The Spartans and the Mustangs were named Bi-District Champions, sweeping their opponents in the area rounds. The Mustangs fell 3-1 to Ridge Point High School in a competitive match Don Coleman Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 4, and the Spartans played Tompkins High School on Friday, Nov. 5. at the Merrell Center in Katy.

Cross Country

Weeks after Stratford’s star cross country runner Emanuel Galdino announced he’d committed to Iowa State University to continue his athletic and academic career, the accolades continued to roll in. Galdino won the district and regional championships. He was also named to the Cross Country Coaches Association of Texas All-Region Team. The Stratford senior now has his eyes set on a 6A State Championship. He will run against the best high school athletes in the state on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Round Rock. Joining Galdino are his teammates from the Stratford girls team, who finished as runners up in the regional meet. Megan Broom, Niamh Collins, Allison Goodwin, Maggie Pearce, Anastasia Sciretti, Allie Weinhardt and Siena Yoder each qualified for the state meet.

Northbrook High School’s Jamie Rivera put together formidable performances at the District 17-6A meet and the regional meet. Her seventh-place finish at the district meet with a time of 20:11.2 earned her a spot at regionals. She finished 31st in the regional meet out of 163 participants to narrowly miss a spot in the 6A State Championship. Rivera capped her season by being selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State 2nd Team. The Raiders are proud of their cross country ambassador for representing the school at a high level.

Tennis

The Memorial Tennis team added to its list of accomplishments, making its 13th straight trip to the State Tournament. The team finished as UIL State Semifinalist, Region III-6A Champs, Area, Bi-District and 17-6A Champions. Congrats to the Mustangs on an amazing season!
