Spring Branch ISD awarded Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting for 31st consecutive year

For the 31st consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting to Spring Branch ISD for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022.

"I am immensely proud of this achievement, and it is an honor to be part of this great team!” said Christine Porter, SBISD Associate Superintendent for Finance. “I am very thankful to Tera Harris, Director of Accounting, and David Bender, Controller, for their exceptional leadership, guiding the team through the audit and reporting process year after year. Their expertise and commitment to SBISD have been instrumental in earning this prestigious recognition. I would also like to extend a special thank you to the entire Finance Division for their tireless efforts in solidifying the district’s financial integrity and ensuring our students and staff have the resources they need to excel."

The certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.

“It is a privilege and honor to be part of a dynamic finance division that works diligently to ensure the students of SBISD have the goods and services they need to excel and develop the Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate,” said LaWanda Coffee, Executive Director of External Funding and Compliance. “This award is evidence of how the finance division works with integrity to maintain compliance while meeting the needs of the stakeholders.”

Since 1945, the GFOA has encouraged and assisted state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence transparency.
