Spring Branch ISD board approves community committee to recommend career, technical education facility improvements

The Spring Branch ISD school board Monday night unanimously approved the appointment of a community committee to recommend a plan for improvements in the district’s career and technical education classrooms, labs and facilities.

In an effort to create a world class career and technical education (CTE) program, the Board of Trustees appointed a long-range facilities committee made up of parents, students, staff, community members, business leaders and district administrators. The committee is charged with developing a plan to help the district provide better CTE classrooms, labs, and facilities.

Superintendent Jennifer Blaine said the district wants robust CTE programming and great facilities to help reach the goal of having every graduate attain a technical certificate, military training, or a two-year or four-year degree.

“Career and technical education is vitally important to our students and to the future of our community, and we’re committed to providing students and teachers the best facilities for this critical work,” Dr. Blaine said.

The 75-member community committee will be expected to develop and present to the board for consideration a CTE Long-Range Facilities Plan to serve as a baseline for the next 10 years. The plan is expected to include recommendations on upgrades, renovations, expansions or replacements of existing classrooms, labs, and facilities.

Committee membership will include 14 parents, seven students, 10 business representatives, four representative of higher education, 10 community members, 12 teachers and counselors, 10 principals and assistant principals, six central administration officials and two board trustees who will be non-voting members of the committee.

The group will begin its work this month and finish by August.
