Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees adopts lowest tax rate since 2007-08

Homeowners in Spring Branch ISD will see a $0.0355 reduction in their district tax rate from last year. At their Sept. 19 regular meeting, Trustees voted unanimously (7-0) to reduce the tax rate for the 2022-2023 fiscal year from $1.3043 to $1.2688 per $100 of assessed taxable valuation.

This represents the lowest SBISD tax rate since 2007-08. The actual impact on a local resident’s tax statement is dependent on the taxable value of a specific property as set by the Harris County Appraisal District.

Among area school districts, SBISD remains one of the few in Harris County to offer every tax break allowed by law, including the local optional 20 percent homestead exemption.

Based on the estimated tax on a $500,000 home, SBISD homeowners have the second lowest tax burden in the region – less than Katy, Spring, Cy-Fair or many other similar suburban ISDs.

In addition, the school tax rate and the amount paid are frozen for our taxpayers with the over-65 or disabled persons exemptions.
