Spring Branch ISD board unanimously votes to extend superintendent’s contract

At the Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees special meeting on Friday, April 14, trustees voted unanimously (7-0) to extend Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Blaine’s contract by an additional year, with the new contract ending June 30, 2028.

“The SBISD Board of Trustees is proud to extend Dr. Blaine’s contract by one year, to the maximum five-year term allowed by law,” said Chris Earnest, board president. “We acknowledge Dr. Blaine’s outstanding leadership to ensure strong outcomes for our students, a deep commitment to safety and security, and relentless advocacy on behalf of our district during this legislative session.”

This decision comes after continued academic growth and narrowed achievement gaps among SBISD students. Together with the Board of Trustees, in 2019, Dr. Blaine established an intense system-wide focus on reading and math to close gaps and ensure the success of Every Child.

Prior to the vote, Trustee Josef Klam thanked Dr. Blaine for her continued leadership stating, “We are so incredibly fortunate to have one of the best, if not the single very best superintendent in the entire state of Texas.”

Dr. Blaine has been an educator for more than 32 years in roles including principal, associate superintendent over three different divisions, and now, superintendent.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a specialization in reading from the University of Iowa, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational administration and educational leadership, respectively, both from Sam Houston State University.
