Spring Branch ISD Board unanimously votes to extend superintendent’s contract - Feb. 6, 2024

Houston, Texas (February 6, 2024) At the Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees special meeting on Monday, February 5, trustees voted unanimously to extend Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Blaine’s contract by an additional year. The new contract ending date will be June 30,2029, the maximum five-year term allowed by law.

“Dr. Blaine continues to be an outstanding leader for our system,” noted Board President Chris Earnest. “Under her leadership, academic achievement continues to rise, and our students are improving and outperforming their peers across the region and the state.”

Since taking the helm in 2019, Dr. Blaine has focused the system on reading, math and students supports, with an additional focus on Career and Technical Education (CTE) for our secondary students. As a result, SBISD has significantly increased the number of certifications earned by nearly 140 percent – from 560 certifications earned in 2020-21, to 1,333 certifications earned last year. This growth directly aligns with our T-2-4 vision for every SBISD student to achieve a Technical Certification, military training or a 2-year or 4-year degree.

“Dr. Blaine is also recognized for her courageous advocacy on behalf of SBISD and our school district. She was a fearless and vocal leader and advocate for public school funding during the 88th Legislative Session and has continued to speak out about the critical needs of our system. At the same time, Dr. Blaine has been transparent about the impacts of continued inaction by state leaders, bringing forth difficult recommendations to sustain SBISD’s financial integrity and ensure continued educational excellence for Every Child in light of looming budget gaps.”

Dr. Blaine has served Spring Branch ISD for 23 years having previously served as a principal, and associate superintendent over three different divisions. This is her fifth year as the district’s superintendent.  She brings an additional ten years of educational experience to her role.

Dr. Blaine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a specialization in reading from the University of Iowa, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational administration and educational leadership, respectively, both from Sam Houston State University.
