SBISD diving team showcases unity and talent at meet

The Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) diving program exemplifies the power of collaboration, bringing together skilled athletes from Memorial, Northbrook and Stratford high schools.

In this unique program, the divers train with one another daily and compete against each other at meets, building bonds and transcending school boundaries. Under the guidance of Coach George Kutac, the divers have learned to respect the competition.

The team showcased its efforts this semester at the SBISD Invitational Meet, held at W.W. Emmons Natatorium. This event included high school athletes from Clear Creek ISD, Cy-Fair ISD, and Fort Bend ISD. On the day of the competition, the team took to the boards, impressing spectators with their precision and skill. Parents, staff, and community members filled the stands, cheering on the divers as they executed complex routines with grace and determination.

Reflecting on the meet, Kutac shared: "All the divers performed well, putting into practice the skills acquired through our daily training. Divers have shown the ability to leave their comfort zone, conquer their fears, and perform under pressure.

"Through training, they have gained confidence in themselves that I see carrying over into other aspects of their daily lives. I teach the divers to respect and show gratitude toward judges, meet directors, support staff, other coaches, and opponents because people will always remember how you make them feel. I have noticed the SBISD divers practicing this without reminder."

“We are always looking to welcome new members into our diving program. Experience is not required, and we can work with your schedule. This year, we have a sophomore and a junior who are both first-time divers! We have successful student-athletes also involved in FFA, religious clubs, community service groups, academic organizations, and other sports. If you would like more information about the diving program, please reach out to me at George.kutac@springbranchisd.com.”

As 2025 approaches, the SBISD diving team looks forward to building on this year’s achievements, continuing to break barriers and inspire unity among high schools. With the Regional and State Meets in February, the diving team will focus on raising its scores and "ripping" bold dives!
