SBISD celebrates regional success in bilingual academic excellence

Congratulations to Camila Rios of Woodview Elementary (WVE) on earning second place overall at the Region 4 Spanish Spelling Bee on Feb. 4 and advancing to represent SBISD at the State Spanish Spelling Bee on June 4 in El Paso, Texas.

Camila competed alongside fellow SBISD students Natalia Pulgarin Reyna of WVE and Yeico Londono of Buffalo Creek Elementary (BCE). All three students advanced to the regional competition after earning top honors at SBISD’s first districtwide Spanish spelling bee, hosted by the Multilingual Department on Jan. 9. Fifteen students from dual language campuses across the district participated in the inaugural event.

At the regional competition, SBISD students competed alongside 36 participants from school districts across the region. Over nearly three hours of competition, they demonstrated perseverance, confidence and composure. When the field was narrowed to the final seven students, all three SBISD representatives remained, an outstanding achievement.

SBISD is proud to celebrate these students for their academic success and for the confidence and determination they demonstrated throughout the competition. Their achievements reflect the strength of SBISD’s dual language programs and the district’s commitment to developing bilingual learners prepared for future opportunities.

Congratulations to our students, their families and the educators who support and strengthen dual language programming across SBISD.
