The district has seen a sizeable 25% year-over-year increase in the number of students earning prestigious Advanced Placement® (AP®) awards, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence and college readiness.

Rising AP® Scholars

The number of scholars has surged from 756 in 2023 to 938 in 2024. The breakdown includes:

  • 368 AP® Scholars: Achieved scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.
  • 155 AP® Scholars with Honor: Maintained an average score of at least 3.25 across all AP® Exams and scored 3 or higher on four or more exams.
  • 415 AP® Scholars with Distinction: Maintained an average score of at least 3.5 across all AP® Exams and scored 3 or higher on five or more exams.

"Congratulations to all our AP® Scholars," said Dr. Jennifer Blaine, Superintendent of Schools. "The dedication and passion of these students are clear indicators of the high standards and educational excellence promoted by our educators and schools."

About the AP® Program

The College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program allows high school students to engage in challenging college-level coursework and earn college credit. Research shows that AP® students are better prepared for college, demonstrating higher levels of academic achievement and persistence.

AP® Capstone Achievements

SBISD also celebrates the accomplishments of its students who have excelled in the AP®Capstone Diploma program.

This year, 14 students received the AP Capstone Diploma™ and 2 students earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™. This prestigious program, offered in over 2,500 schools globally, is designed to cultivate critical thinking, research, collaboration, and presentation skills that are crucial for success in higher education and beyond.

"We are extremely proud of our students who have achieved success in the AP Capstone Diploma program," added Dr. Blaine. "This reflects our commitment to making our T-2-4 vision a reality—where Every Child is equipped for success beyond high school."

To earn the AP Capstone Diploma, students must achieve scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research, and on four additional AP® Exams of their choice. The AP Seminar and Research Certificate is awarded to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.

The program’s project-based assessments evaluate students' abilities through group projects, presentations, and individual essays, emphasizing interdisciplinary research and critical thinking skills. With a commitment to excellence, SBISD offers a range of advanced academic programs, including the AP Capstone program, to support student growth and achievement.
