Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) fall athletics impress in 2024

 

SBISD athletes showcased excellence across multiple sports this fall, proving to be some of the Houston area and state’s best, with notable achievements in football, volleyball, water polo, cross country, and team tennis.

 

 

Volleyball

Stratford High School’s volleyball team dominated the postseason and competed in the Class 6A Division II championship on Nov. 23. The Spartans finished the season with a 42-3 record and were ranked No. 14 nationally by MaxPreps. They defeated Austin Vandegrift in the semifinals to secure their first title match appearance since 2002. Stratford faced nationally ranked No. 1 Byron Nelson in a highly anticipated matchup. While they did not bring home the championship, the team represented Stratford and the district with talent, spirit, and grit.

Memorial High School finished as the 17-6A district runner-up and advanced to the area round.

Spring Woods High School also qualified for postseason play, earning a bi-district berth after finishing fourth in 21-5A district play.

 

 

Football

The Stratford Spartans had an impressive run, advancing as the No.1 seed in Division II for 17-6A. They fell to the Jordan Warriors in the UIL 6A Division II area round on Nov. 22. Stratford finished the season 8-4.

Memorial High School’s football team finished the season as bi-district qualifiers but fell to Heights High School in a hard-fought matchup.

Northbrook High School celebrated a highlight of the season when head coach Demond Stafford was honored as the Houston Texans Coach of the Week and the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Coach of the Week in Week 3. Spring Woods HS football. They finished 3-7 overall, with a 3-5, 3-7 overall is 10-5A play.

 

 

Water Polo

SBISD’s water polo teams excelled this season. The Memorial girls were bi-district qualifiers and Memorial boys were regional quarterfinalists. Stratford girls were regional quarterfinalists and Stratford boys were regional semifinalists. This is the furthest any water polo team has gone since SBISD began UIL competition in water polo three years ago.

 

 

Country

SBISD cross country teams delivered outstanding performances. The Stratford boys were crowned 17-6A district champions, led by Ben Pearce, who also claimed individual titles at the district and regional levels.

The Memorial girls claimed the 17-6A district title, with Sophie Peterson finishing as the district champion. The Spring Woods boys secured the 21-5A district championship, led by Frank Miranda’s individual victory. The Spring Woods girls placed third in district competition, with Hannah Araiza-Rojas earning the 21-5A individual crown.

State qualifiers included Pearce (Stratford), Addison Scott (Memorial), and Peterson (Memorial).

 

 

Team Tennis

Memorial High School’s team tennis program had an exceptional season, reaching the regional final after winning the 17-6A district, bi-district, area, regional quarterfinal, and regional semifinal championships.

Spring Woods High School also excelled, capturing the 21-5A district title and advancing to the area round.

Stratford earned a bi-district championship and an area qualifier spot.

SBISD athletes continue to raise the bar, bringing pride to their schools and the district through their accomplishments this fall season.
