Last month, Texas Education Technology Leaders (TETL) announced that SBISD's Education Technology department, led by Director Ashley May, received TETL’s TEAM Award.
May's leadership is characterized by her dedication to nurturing a strong team focused on providing high-quality learning experiences to students and educators district wide. Through initiatives like Canvas Champions and Technology Trading Post, along with SBISD's Online Learning Program, May's team has made significant strides toward this vision. To date, district educators have logged hundreds of professional development hours, directly benefiting students across SBISD. The team's work highlights the critical importance of equitable access to technology.
"In today's digital age, ensuring all students have access to technology is essential for their academic success. This access is facilitated through strong partnerships and connections that bridge classroom learning to real-world applications. It begins with our educators feeling empowered to utilize new resources and explore technology in innovative ways as part of their instruction," said May.
As the team celebrates this recognition, they look ahead optimistically to the upcoming school year. "We're excited for the launch of our new Digital Resources and Media Center Support department," announced May, marking the transition from the Education Technology department to the renamed department.
"We have the opportunity to create meaningful and impactful learning experiences for all students through our new Media Center model, and our support for educators and students alike in the areas of STEM & Digital Resources will continue to push the envelope and reshape what instruction looks like every day. Our team is uniquely positioned to help bridge the gap between today’s learning and emerging technologies that will continue to reshape industries and workplaces. It's an exciting time for education and our role within it."
