SBISD's Bunker Hill Elementary School has been honored with a prestigious award as part of the 2024-25 Exhibit of School Architecture.
This accolade recognizes the school’s outstanding design, value, wellness, and planning, reflecting the success of the district’s 2017 Bond Program.
The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) selected 41 projects for this year’s exhibit. The projects, submitted by 21 architectural firms, include newly constructed or renovated facilities from 30 school districts, two college systems, and one state school. Each project was completed in the past five years and had not been previously featured in the showcase.
The redesigned Bunker Hill Elementary features innovative design elements that blend with the natural surroundings. Key features include courtyards and an outdoor learning plaza that enhance the educational environment. The building design also boasts collaborative learning pods and shared spaces.
A 12-member jury, consisting of four school board members, four school administrators, and four representatives from the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE) Southern Region, awarded Stars of Distinction for Excellence to 24 projects in areas such as design, value, wellness, community, planning, and transformation.
The TASA/TASB Exhibit of School Architecture, in partnership with the A4LE – Southern Region Foundation, will showcase these projects at txEDCON24, The TASA | TASB Convention, in San Antonio on September 27-28. The projects will also be featured online at https://texasschoolarchitecture.org/.
