Spring Branch ISD students Communicate and Collaborate to plan Super Saturday Community Event

Seventy-eight Spring Branch ISD high school students representing six campuses are communicating and collaborating to put on a first-of-its-kind event – Spring Branch Super Saturday: Unity In Our Community. The 75th Anniversary of Spring Branch ISD has sparked a sense of pride and gratitude throughout the community, and this project is designed to give back in a big way.

Utilizing the Collective Greatness of some of the top minds in SBISD high schools, the Student Advisory Committee for the 75th Anniversary Community Project voted to create a spring showcase of talents, programs, athletics, academics, art and Career and Technical Education (CTE) on Saturday, April 23rd from 9 a.m. to noon at Tully Stadium. This  event demonstrates these students’ abilities to be Communicators and Collaborators, one of Spring Branch ISD’s Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate

Stratford High School student Ava Somera, who was co-director for Stratford’s community service event “The Big Day,” knows how important working together will be to ensure this endeavor is a success.

“SBISD's Core Characteristic, Communicator and Collaborator, is essential to making sure this event is a success,” Ava said. “It's not extremely common for all of the high schools and The Guthrie Center to work together on a singular goal of this size, so we will need to communicate as much as possible to execute each school's ideas. It is easy for ideas and groups to get lost in the chaos, but I know that as long as we stick to these principles, this event will make history.”

The student representatives from Northbrook, Memorial, Spring Woods, and Stratford high schools, as well as The Guthrie Center, Spring Branch Academic Institute and Westchester Academy for International Studies want this event, inspired by community service, to be an outlet for them to give back to all families across the district.

“I think that for this event to be successful, we really must make the event appealing to everyone,” Guthrie Center student Kevin Sullivan said. “From high school students to the younger kids in elementary school, there needs to be something that they are interested in and something to excite them.”

Multiple Spring Branch ISD Core Characteristics will be on display during the planning and execution of the Spring Branch Super Saturday, including being Ethical and Service-minded. The Core Characteristics, along with the students’ desire to collaborate and lead, are keys to success going forward.

“Being a part of something that is bigger than my school and that will benefit the entire community is something that I am proud to be a part of,” Spring Woods High School student Isabella Gallegos said.  “Practicing collaboration by all participating schools is how we want to approach this event. If we make sure this isn't just a one-sided project, but rather a project where all ideas from all schools are heard, this event will be extremely successful, as we have lots of amazing students at our SBISD high schools.”
