Spring Branch ISD welcomes back Director of Cornerstone Academy and Academy of Choice

Spring Branch ISD welcomes back Angel Purdy as the recently appointed director at Cornerstone Academy and Academy of Choice (AOC). Ms. Purdy joined the co-located campuses on Westview Drive in February 2019.

Cornerstone Academy is a highly rated, district charter school serving students in 6th through 8th grades. Academy of Choice serves SBISD students in 6th through 12th grades who seek a non-traditional pathway to academic achievement and graduation.

Ms. Purdy has 14 years of public education service, most recently serving as a high school associate principal in Katy ISD. She brings experience as a classroom teacher and instructional coach at the elementary and high school levels. In 2013, she began her career as an administrator in SBISD at Spring Branch Middle School.

Director Purdy earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Texas at El Paso. In 2012, she earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

“I am thrilled to return to Spring Branch ISD,” Director Purdy told families as her appointment was first announced. “The majority of my years in education have been spent learning with and from students who benefited from academic and special-setting experiences that enabled their unique gifts and talents to shine. This is one of the reasons I’m so excited about the opportunity that abounds at Cornerstone and Academy of Choice.”

She continued to say, “I look forward building on the long and successful legacies of these two schools and fully embrace the possibilities that unfold when student learning is relevant, innovative and extraordinary.”

Director Purdy replaces former director Jill Wright, who has retired.
