Spring Branch ISD welcomes back School for Early Learning Director

Spring Branch ISD welcomes back Michele Gabriel as the director of the Lion Lane School for Early Learning. Ms. Gabriel joined the district prekindergarten center in October 2018.

Director Gabriel has 28 years of experience and service in education, all in SBISD. Prior to her recent appointment, she served for six years as assistant principal at Cedar Brook Elementary School.

Her career in SBISD has also included a variety of educational positions, including 18 years at Spring Branch Elementary School as a teacher, diagnostician specialist and assistant principal. She also served as an interdisciplinary instructional coach at Cedar Brook Elementary for a year, and worked in SBISD’s Teaching & Learning Dept. as a facilitator for ARRA.

Director Gabriel received a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, then later earned her master’s degree in educational psychology/special education from the University of Houston.

“I believe that I have one of the best jobs in SBISD because I get to make an impact on some of the youngest learners in the district,” Director Gabriel said.

“Our goal at Lion Lane is to give students the strongest possible start in school. We want to foster and develop children’s love for learning. We do this through hands-on experiences, projects, and immersion in a robust curriculum where students begin to understand that school is a great place to be and learning can be fun.”

Director Gabriel replaces Sharee Cantrell, who is currently director of the district PreK/Early Childhood program.
