Spring Branch ISD welcomes back Sherwood Elementary principal

Spring Branch ISD welcomes back Sarah Salas this school year as new principal at Sherwood Elementary School. She was named to lead Sherwood in March 2019.

Principal Salas has 22 years of public education service. Prior to appointment at Sherwood, she was Pine Shadows Elementary assistant principal for four years. She has also worked as an interdisciplinary coach at Edgewood Elementary, as a Bilingual/ESL Teacher on Special Assignment in SBISD, and as a teacher at Spring Branch Elementary School.

Separately, Ms. Salas taught for three years in Aldine ISD and for three years for Katy ISD.

In 1998, she graduated with a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. She later earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

“Sixteen of my 22 years of education have been here in Spring Branch ISD where I have served as a teacher, instructional coach and administrator in many schools,” Principal Salas told families at her appointment. “I have prioritized developing students to be academically prepared for the future, and to be lifelong learners and global citizens.”

“At the same time, I passionately hold high expectations for the students and staff who I serve. The center of all conversations at Sherwood Elementary will continue to focus on Every Child, as we support the core values of our district,” she has also said. At home, her family includes three teenage children.

Principal Salas replaces Stefanie Spencer, who was appointed principal at Spring Branch Middle School.
