More than 700 parents and students attended the annual PTA-hosted Multicultural Festival held Oct. 25 at Spring Forest Middle School. Flags from the homelands and birthplaces of 900 or more Spring Forest Middle students were hung during festival days throughout the campus, located at 14240 Memorial Drive.   

Spring Forest Middle is proud to be recognized as the most diverse secondary schools in Spring Branch ISD, and students, families and festival organizers were proud to show off the school’s variety of cultures.  The festival included food and special treats from the tables of 28 countries hosted by representative families and staff, henna hand painting and music provided by the Spring Forest Middle band and orchestra, as well as a DJ who treated students to popular and regional music from across the world.

Students had a different cultural experience at every country’s table set up at the festival.  When they visited Canada, for example, they were treated to pancakes and maple syrup while learning about hockey. They sampled chicken feet while learning about China. They sang songs, danced and feasted when they visited the Mexico table. 

Students also took passports around the festival site and received a “stamp” when they filled in a correct answer about a country.  Students who submitted a completed passport also received a Free Dress Day pass to use in lieu of the traditional student uniform.

The local Spring Forest Middle community generously supported the Multicultural Festival by donating food, desserts and services.
