Spring Woods High School (SWHS) student selected for prestigious business camp

Spring Woods High School (SWHS) Sophomore David Lopez Cuyuch has been selected to attend a summer camp by the University of Houston’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship.

His business teacher, Rebecca Campbell, nominated him for this opportunity. “I learned about this program through our Eagle Investor sponsor at Goodwill Houston,” explained Campbell.

The center received 120 applications and only selected 30 students to attend. “David was the first one to tell me that he was selected,” said Campbell. “My heart jumped for joy that he had been selected.”

The camp helps students who are interested in business learn skills to pursue that career. This includes coming up with business ideas, creating pitches, and making business plans.

Lopez Cuyuch was surprised when he got the e-mail. “My initial reaction on being accepted to this program was shock and awe,” he said. “I didn’t believe it at first. When I read the email and realized it was true, I felt blessed and thrilled with having such opportunity.” He is excited about the things he will learn at the camp."

“I hope to have a true understanding of the value the Wolff center provides to entrepreneur students seeking to achieve a degree through their program,” said Lopez Cuyuch. “I also hope to share ideas with other business scholars, for it would be great to have different perspectives on the mindsets and goals of others. Finally, I hope to have a good time and come out with a more centered mindset on how I plan to achieve my career goals in life. I want to become motivated and ready for the future.”

The Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Houston will host the entrepreneurship camp from June 8 to June 11 for current high school sophomores and juniors.
