Stratford High senior wins First Community Credit Union scholarship

A Stratford High senior has been named one of six scholarship winners under the 2020 First Community Credit Union (FCCU) annual scholarship program.

As an outstanding young person and student, McKenna Tanner will receive $4,000 to assist with her education. She plans to attend Rice University this fall and she is interested in majoring in English.

In addition to the 2020 FCCU scholarship award, Tanner has been awarded the Texas Renaissance Humanities scholarship, valued at $1,500.

“My family has always emphasized the importance of doing your best on your work, and that’s the lesson I’ve tried to carry with me throughout my high school experience,” Tanner told the credit union after winning her scholarship award.

“I’m a big believer in making my work something to be proud of, even if it’s not perfect.”

SBISD’s Tanner joined scholarship winners and graduating seniors from Alief, Katy, Klein, Cypress Fairbanks and Needville ISDs, representing areas served by the local credit union. First Community Credit Union was chartered in Spring Branch, and it remains an active supporter of the school district.
