Mistaken identity causes mayhem and fun in “Lend Me a Tenor”

The award-winning Stratford Playhouse will open its 2018-19 season with Lend Me a Tenor, a door-slamming comedy farce that focuses on mistaken identities, mischievous misunderstandings and compromising positions.

The student comedy will be presented from Oct. 4-13, with both evening and matinee performances. Tickets are available online through shsplayhouse.org, and at the Stratford Box Office.

The Tony Award-winning play follows the Cleveland Opera Company, host for one night to world renowned tenor Tito Morelli in a once-in-a-lifetime production. But before the opera curtain rises, Morelli is found unconscious and presumed dead.

The laughter begins when the desperate general manager sends his assistant on to pretend to be Morelli.

“We are really excited to present another play by Ken Ludwig,” said Playhouse Director David Clayton. “We had so much fun putting on Leading Ladies several years ago and we know this one will be just as much fun for both the cast and the audience.”

The student director, Janet Hagedorn, agrees. “Ludwig’s comedy lies in situations and physical humor.  It will be the perfect lighthearted way to spend your evening,” she said.

Tickets for Lend Me A Tenor are $17. They are available online at shsplayhouse.org, or at the Stratford Box Office.

Performances are scheduled for Oct. 4-6, Oct. 11 and Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees are 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 and Oct. 13.  This show is suggested for audiences at least 13 years or older.
All performances will be held at Stratford High School’s main stage theatre, 14555 Fern Drive.  For more information or to buy tickets, go online or call 713-251-3449Lend Me a Tenor is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
