Athletes in Action: Quarterback Aaron DeLeon

In this edition of Athletes in Action, we shine a spotlight on Aaron DeLeon, the senior quarterback for the Stratford Spartans, whose achievements on the field are only rivaled by his dedication in the classroom and leadership on campus.

A force to be reckoned with both as a passer and a runner, Aaron has been instrumental in the Spartans' success this season. Among his standout performances, his 13 rushing touchdowns for 800 yards in a single season and his incredible 7-touchdown game against Cy Creek his junior year are just the beginning. Aaron is a versatile threat, able to throw the ball with pinpoint accuracy and make explosive plays with his legs when needed. This season, he leads his district in passing with 1,786 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also ranking third in rushing with 826 yards and 13 touchdowns. His performance in the Memorial game, where he threw for 195 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 93 yards and four touchdowns, earned him the Inside High School Sports Player of the Week honor.

But Aaron’s impact goes beyond just statistics. Known for his leadership and poise, he has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches alike. As the quarterback, Aaron understands the importance of team chemistry. He takes pride in getting his teammates in the right position and setting the tone for the offense. His leadership extends off the field as well. Aaron is a mentor to younger quarterbacks, often stepping in to help them improve their skills. He also works hard to ensure his teammates stay on top of their academics, regularly checking in on their grades so they can continue to play.

“Aaron is one of the hardest-working players on our team,” says Coach Todd Rankin. “He is always the first to show up and the last to leave. His focus and dedication are contagious, and he leads by example every day. Whether it’s on the field or in the classroom, Aaron sets a standard for others to follow.”

Balancing academics and athletics is never easy, but Aaron handles it with maturity and discipline. Passionate about both medical terminology and economics, he works hard to maintain a strong GPA while also excelling on the football field. His ability to prioritize and manage his time effectively is a model for his peers, and he has big goals for his senior year. “I want to help my team make a deep playoff run and continue to push myself academically to raise my GPA,” Aaron says.

As he looks ahead to the future, Aaron is committed to pursuing football at the collegiate level. He has already received multiple offers and continues to attract attention from recruiters. His ability to perform under pressure, such as his game-winning drive against Kingwood this season, shows that he has the mental toughness needed to succeed at the next level. Whether it’s in football, coaching, or another career path like business or kinesiology, Aaron’s drive and discipline will undoubtedly set him up for success.

Off the field, Aaron is deeply involved in his community, participating in Stratford’s annual Big Day of Service and volunteering at local events like the Meadow Wood Elementary carnival. His commitment to service reflects his belief in giving back and supporting others, further solidifying his role as a leader both on and off the field.

As Aaron’s high school career draws to a close, it’s clear that his legacy at Stratford will go far beyond his athletic accomplishments. He has demonstrated time and again that true leadership is about more than just talent—it's about hard work, dedication, and setting an example for others to follow.

Aaron’s story is one of resilience, focus, and heart, and his journey is just beginning. Whatever the future holds, there’s no doubt that this standout student-athlete will continue to inspire those around him.
