Students WOW with Innovative Projects & Academic Preparedness

GT Showcase 2024

Spring Branch Independent School District (SBISD) recently hosted an extraordinary event to showcase talented and gifted students.

The GT Project Showcase, held at Don Coleman Coliseum, was an excellent opportunity for elementary students to present their innovative projects to their families and peers. The event was attended by many, and parents couldn't hide their pride and excitement as their children displayed their hard work and creativity.

Odyssey of the Mind students from Iris Story's class brought enthusiasm to the event, wowing parents with an impressive performance. Story also introduced Chris Macha from Electronic Parts Outlet, who brought a full-sized robot to the showcase, adding a new level of fun for the children in attendance.

The evening had a total of 146 student participants from schools across the district. Participants showcased their innovative projects in a designated display area on the Coliseum floor. The Limitless Curiosity displayed by the students was impressive.

Parents and attendees explored the displays and provided feedback to the students who added the projects to their ongoing portfolio developed during their years in the GT program.

Advanced Academic Studies’ Linda Bimler, the event organizer, was impressed with how engaged the students were in their learning and their ability to share their knowledge in powerful ways. "This event is about recognizing the amazing work of our kids and program," said Bimler. "Every year I am blown away by their amazing work!"

“Special thanks for the exceptional efforts of the National Honor Society students from Northbrook, Memorial, Spring Woods, and Stratford High Schools, as well as the remarkable assistance of volunteers from Memorial, Spring Woods, and Westchester Academy,” said Bimler.

“These dedicated individuals went above and beyond in their contributions to the event, performing tasks such as transporting equipment, distributing awards, greeting attendees, providing guidance, attentively listening to student presentations, and tidying up the venue.”

The GT program in SBISD offers advanced and differentiated independent research opportunities that align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

Projects showcased at the event supported the state's academic goals for Gifted and Talented students.
