Summer Reading Rockstars recognized for building reading stamina

Spring Branch ISD students recently participated in the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge with a goal of each participant logging at least 750 reading minutes by the end of summer.

In total, SBISD students logged more than 700,000 minutes and read more than 15,000 books!

During last summer’s reading challenge, students logged approximately 230,000 minutes of reading. This year brought a significant increase in minutes read by SBISD students.

“We are really proud of our students’ dedication to building their reading stamina,” said Dr. Kristin Craft, Associate Superintendent for Academics. “I am thankful for their commitment to reading throughout the summer.”

The top readers in elementary, middle and high school were recognized as Summer Reading Rockstars during the SBISD Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Aug. 22, and were awarded medals.

The grand winners received prizes sponsored by the Spring Branch Education Foundation, which included a Dash and Dot Robot kit for elementary students, a Nintendo Switch for middle school students and a Meta Quest 2 for high school students.

Additionally, students who logged reading minutes were entered into weekly drawings for goody bags and gift cards, also sponsored by SBEF.

Programs like Summer Reading Challenge reinforce SBISD’s commitment and focus on literacy as a district priority.
