Dear SBISD Families, Staff, and Community,

This morning, the SBISD Board of Trustees held a Special Meeting to consider possible changes to the SBISD 2020-2021 academic calendar in response to the July 24, 2020 Joint Control Order of the Local Health Authorities for Harris County and the City of Houston Regarding Public and Non-Religious Private Schools, which prohibits schools from opening for in-person instruction until after September 7, 2020.

Trustees voted 6-1 to amend the SBISD 2020-2021 academic calendar to begin school on August 24, 2020, with all students beginning school remotely.

In-person learning for those families choosing for their students to physically return to school would be implemented beginning on September 8, unless local health authorities state otherwise. As a result of the calendar change, the elementary school day will be extended by five minutes. View the updated calendar here.

The deadline for parents to select in-person or distance learning under the LearnSBISD plan remains midnight on July 31. Parents may submit their choice by completing the Learning Model Selection Form online through Skyward Family Access, or by printing and submitting a printed copy. Learn more here.

There is no change to the work calendar for SBISD employees.

Please continue to monitor the SBISD website, social media and information from your child’s school in the days and weeks ahead.

We thank our community for your patience and understanding during this very critical and unprecedented time.  All of us in SBISD are committed to going beyond to ensure the best possible experience for our students, staff and families in the school year ahead.

With appreciation,
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
