Texas Tribune Article on Reopening Schools
Dear SBISD Community and Staff,
According to a Texas Tribune article published about an hour ago, Governor Abbott told lawmakers this morning that Texas public schools will be reopening this fall.
Please understand, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has not yet provided guidance as to how schools will be allowed to reopen. In SBISD we will not make any assumptions or announce our plans for reopening until we receive TEA guidance which is expected next Tuesday afternoon.
At the Board of Trustees Regular meeting on Monday, June 22, district leaders will provide an update to the SBISD Board of Trustees. Included in this update will be the results of our recent employee and family surveys as well as the feedback received from nearly 200 stakeholders through a series of Zoom feedback sessions conducted last week.
All of us in SBISD are as anxious as you are to know and move forward with plans for the school year ahead. Once guidance is provided next Tuesday, we will move as swiftly as possible to announce our plans for the return to school on August 17.
We remain dedicated to our SBISD Commitments and to our two guiding imperatives that we will prioritize both the health, safety and wellness of our students, staff and families and the academic growth and social and emotional development that our students need and deserve and our families expect.
Please stay tuned for email, website and social media announcements by the end of next week, as SBISD responds to the specific guidance from the Texas Education Agency.
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
