Superintendent's message - May 20, 2021

(Spanish)

Dear Spring Branch ISD families and staff,

As we approach the close of this school year, it’s a great time to reflect on and celebrate all that we’ve achieved over the past year.

Beginning this week, we will honor about 2,300 students as part of the Class of 2021. Graduation ceremonies will be held outdoors at Tully Stadium between May 21 and 27. All ceremonies will be streamed live on the Spring Branch ISD website. For event health and safety information, ticket information and ceremony specifics, be sure to visit the website. We look forward to honoring our amazing graduates! Congratulations, Class of 2021!

In the spirit of celebration, I want to once again share how extremely proud I am of our staff, students and families for GOING BEYOND this year. From new safety protocols to being part of our remarkable safe return to in-person learning during the pandemic, every member of the SBISD family remained committed to inspiring minds and shaping lives by providing high-quality learning experiences for Every Child.

Last fall, our LearnSBISD plan transformed protocols and practices. From successfully starting new cleaning protocols to reworking nearly all of our transportation routes, our custodial and transportation teams embraced the work in new ways. Big thanks and appreciation to these groups, and ALL our support staff, no matter their role.

Our Technology Department kept us connected – from home and school – with the deployment of more than 28,700 digital devices. This team’s hard work truly put learning in the hands of students, 24/7. I am thankful to our Board of Trustees for their vision and leadership, which ensured our kids got the tools they needed to learn. I am also thankful to our community for their continued investment in our schools, our programs and our students.

This school year, our heroes in Child Nutrition Services served more than 76,000 curbside meals to our community, while still performing normal food service operations. This was an incredible feat that truly embodies our Core Value of Collective Greatness.

We also watched our nurses step up and rise to the challenge. They worked on the frontlines, helping make it possible to keep our campus doors open and maintain a safe environment for our students and staff, and they went out into the community and volunteered to help give COVID vaccinations.

Finally, thank you to our teachers, counselors, administrators and support staff. They did what seemed IMPOSSIBLE. They did their part to keep our students learning, and they did it with courage, persistence, adaptability, and commitment. They didn’t just show up, they stood up. They did what great educators do – they learned from the experience.

Our teachers transformed practice, inspired and supported each other, and never stopped focusing on Every Child. Every teacher in SBISD should be extremely proud of their work. I know I am, and I will be forever grateful for it.

The result of this Collective Greatness? Well, here are just a few of the AMAZING honors achieved this academic year.

  • There are 118 Rising Scholars enrolled in Spring Branch ISD’s fall SAT workshop program. These students were the top 10th grade performers district-wide on the Fall 2020 PSAT/NMSQT exam.
  • Teams from Rummel Creek Elementary, Spring Branch Academic Institute, and Spring Woods High School placed first in their respective Odyssey of the Mind challenges in April. Spring Woods’ team is heading for the World Finals this June!
  • This year, we honored 16 National Merit Semifinalists and 13 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholars. Two Memorial High School seniors also received separate national awards through the College Board
  • In Visual Arts, SBISD boasted five National Gold Medal and three National Silver Medal winners in the Scholastic Art program, as well as 23 medal winners and two scholarship recipients in the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event.
  • Twelve of our high school musicians were selected to their respective All-State Ensembles. Our Memorial High School Varsity Treble Choir was also invited to be a performer for this year’s Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention – a true honor!
  • In 2020-2021, Spring Branch ISD was represented in postseason competition in every UIL sport in which we competed.
  • Four teams—Memorial High School’s Team Tennis, Girls Soccer, Boys Golf and Spring Woods High School’s Unified Sports Track and Field - and 19 student-athletes competed at the state level in UIL championships.

Amazing! I can’t wait to see what Spring Branch ISD will achieve in 2021-2022.

I am proud to be the Superintendent of our incredible school district. We’ve risen above challenges, turned them into opportunities and achieved so much this school year – together. Summer offers time to reset and refresh, and I hope you will take time to do both.  We have an exciting year ahead of us – the 75th anniversary year of Spring Branch ISD -- and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Thank you for your commitment to Every Child! Have a great summer.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
