Dear Spring Branch ISD Families and Staff,
I am excited to share that for the second year in a row, STAAR test results show that Spring Branch ISD student achievement has significantly improved among grade levels across the district.
Preliminary comparison to state data indicates Spring Branch ISD continues to exceed state performance levels in elementary and middle school reading and math in nearly all grades and performance levels.
The STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) test is used to measure students’ achievement and progress through assessments in grades three through eight in mathematics, reading, science, and social studies. STAAR End of Course (EOC) assessments are given in Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, and U.S. History.
STAAR results are measured based on three performance level standards: “approaches grade level or above,” “meets grade level or above” and “masters grade level.”
In SBISD, we consider multiple measures of academic performance. While the STAAR test is not our only measure of success, it is important in determining students’ academic growth.
Here are a few highlights from the Spring 2022 STAAR test results:
• Second year of encouraging patterns of strong academic progress and achievement
• Substantial improvement continued in elementary and middle school grades in all subjects across the majority of performance levels, by as many as 18 points.
• Middle school students exceeded last year’s results in all subject areas and performance levels.
• English II, Biology and U.S. History assessments maintained or improved at most performance levels.
More than 95% of our students took the STAAR test online, which has well prepared them as the assessment will be fully online next year.
These outstanding results are a reflection of our students’ hard work and dedication. I am incredibly proud of their determination and all they accomplished this past year.
As we continue to lead with focus and clarity for the benefit of Every Child, I thank the teachers, principals and administrators who have actively provided our students with the resources to help them succeed.
We are thrilled to see what the upcoming school year will bring and look forward to welcoming everyone back on August 15!
I hope you continue to enjoy a wonderful and safe summer. Thank you for your continued support of our students and Spring Branch ISD.
Jennifer Blaine, Ed.D.
