In November 2021, Spring Branch ISD kicked off the Teachers Driving Success Award for the school year. Teachers Driving Success is a teacher appreciation program, sponsored by Sterling McCall Group, that recognizes an outstanding SBISD classroom teacher each month. Traditionally, the winner was awarded a loaner car for personal use during the month in which they were named. Instead of discontinuing the program when loaner cars became scarce, Sterling McCall Group remained dedicated to recognizing SBISD teachers and now awards $300 in gas cards to each winner! Thanks to its partnership with Sterling McCall Group, SBISD recognized three outstanding teachers this school year for the way they drive success in their schools.
As the first awardee of the school year, Cassie Schaps from Hunters Creek Elementary was November’s Teachers Driving Success winner. In her nomination, Principal Robye Snyder wrote, “Cassie is a leader on her team and our campus. She is calm and has a patient demeanor with kids. She works with students in small groups and her student achievement each year is amazing.” Ms. Schaps was awarded by Sterling McCall Group and Advantage BMW.
In December, SBISD and Sterling McCall Group recognized the very deserving Maricela Akshar from The Tiger Trail School as the Teachers Driving Success winner! The Tiger Trail director, Mandy Ruiz, wrote, “Maricela is an academic leader at Tiger Trail. She is providing modeled lessons for all teachers on our campus. She is a leader in the PLC process and drives academic and professional growth. She encourages teachers to dive deeper and is always a kind person with sound advice to give.” Ms. Akshar’s award was presented by Sterling McCall Group and Sterling McCall Lexus.
We are excited to continue the surprise announcements with January’s winner Pedro Soto from Spring Woods High School! Principal Jennifer Collier submitted a raving nomination, writing, “Mr. Soto is a perfect role model for all of SBISD’s Core Values. He doesn't only display these values with his students, he takes it a step further and unveils them onto his coworkers. Whether you need someone for moral support, lesson planning help or just a friend to talk to, you can definitely count on him. Spring Woods wouldn't be Spring Woods without Mr. Soto.” Mr. Soto was honored, thanks to Sterling McCall Group and Sterling McCall Restoration Center.
Each winner received $300 in gas gift cards as a token of recognition for the ways in which they drive success on their campuses. Congratulations, Ms. Schaps, Ms. Ashkar and Mr. Soto! We are lucky to have such incredible teachers!
The SBISD Community Engagement team looks forward to recognizing a new Teachers Driving Success winner each month.
