Terrace Elementary recently celebrated its annual Loved Ones Day, a special event that encourages families to spend time together and fosters a shared love of reading.
The event was attended by approximately 200 family members, including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older cousins, and other loved ones.
This year’s celebration was made possible through a joint effort involving student librarian ambassadors, library managers, and a team of volunteers from Stratford High School. The team's work paid off in providing a captivating backdrop, signboards for photo booths, and a dedicated coloring table. With these amenities, students relished the opportunity to proudly exhibit their Storybook Pumpkins, discuss their favorite library corners, and delight in creating a souvenir to carry home.
Launched three years ago as an inventive take on Grandparents Day, Loved Ones Day is the school library’s brainchild, developed to facilitate interactions around books, simultaneously creating heartwarming memories. The school takes advantage of its library’s Storybook Pumpkin Week by scheduling the Loved Ones Day event in parallel, creating an atmosphere where families can discover new stories and foster discussions about books.
This day is undeniably a product of the library's unending passion and planning. “It’s something we start preparing well in advance,” shared school librarian, Teresa Dolan. “We hope this event shows our community how much we value them and that we want them to be part of our school,” said Dolan.
Reflecting on the day, Dolan added, “Loved Ones Day not only encapsulates our students and their parents but embraces the whole Timberwolf family. Our motive behind Loved Ones Day is to emphasize how deeply we value reading at Terrace Elementary and to prove that we're fully committed to shaping our Timberwolves into lifetime readers, together.”
