Thornwood Elementary pilots VOYCE interpreter service

A pilot program at Thornwood Elementary was launched in the spring to enable school personnel to communicate in real time with non-English-speaking families utilizing services provided via video or voice by VOYCE interpreters .

With the new school year underway, this interpretation program, and others available to district campuses, remain critical links between teachers, administrators and families.

Superintendent Jennifer Blaine praised the ability of the VOYCE program to break down language barriers and facilitate family engagement to help students be more academically successful.

Associate Superintendent of Community Relations Linda Buchman noted that SBISD families speak over 70 different languages.

"It was extremely helpful to have this tool [last spring] to check in with parents and communicate information about their child’s academics and other services," she said.
