SBISD students and teachers make big strides

While many students were enjoying summer break, thousands across Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) were hard at work learning, growing and preparing for the year ahead.

More than 1,700 pre-K through eighth grade students attended summer school, while high schoolers earned more than 1,000 half credits toward graduation. Thirty-two students crossed the finish line through Aspiring, a program designed for students who need a flexible, accelerated path to complete their final graduation requirements. These students worked intensively — often juggling jobs or other responsibilities — to earn their diplomas and take their next step toward college, career or military service.

For newcomer students, Camp Welcome provided a warm start — 189 students representing 20 different languages participated. In a major milestone, 995 emergent bilingual students were reclassified, meaning they demonstrated the English proficiency necessary to fully engage in grade-level learning without language support. Reclassification opens doors to increased advanced coursework, broader career pathways and increased confidence in both academic and social settings.

Academically, SBISD students continued to excel. Results from spring 2025 show that more than 3,000 secondary students took 6,855 AP® exams, with 74% earning qualifying scores, and 1,077 students were named AP® Scholars — a jump from last year’s total. SAT School Day performance outpaced both state and global averages, underscoring the district’s commitment to college readiness.

Teachers were learning, too — attending 267 professional learning sessions totaling nearly 19,000 hours. Training covered everything from new K-8 reading language arts resources to advanced math and science instruction, ensuring classrooms are ready for student success.

Even in summer, SBISD is living its promise to inspire minds and shape lives.
