Trustees Shown Appreciation … with Carrots!

Carrots were popping up during the Spring Branch ISD School Board Appreciation presentation at the Jan. 28 Board of Trustees meeting.

To celebrate School Board Recognition Month, Dr. Scott Muri addressed the trustees with words of praise and appreciation for their dedication and service to Every Child.

“The theme for this [school board recognition] month was planting seeds,” said Dr. Muri. “We have some special presentations to you from a group of budding artists.”

Three Kindergarten student artists from Nottingham Elementary proudly presented to each trustee a piece of framed artwork depicting a colorful and fanciful carrot character.

Inspired by the children’s book, Creepy Carrots, painted carrot collages were created by seven Nottingham students.

On hand at the board meeting to distribute their artwork were:

  • Adrian Gonzales
  • Charlotte Walla
  • Savannah Morris

Additional carrot art was made by:

  • Eleny Pietri
  • Elsa Allwardt
  • Tylan Spooner
  • Olivia Monaco

The trustees were delighted to receive the artwork, along with a collection of three carrot-themed children’s books (including Creepy Carrots) and a package of carrot seeds. The books included personalized bookplates so the trustees could donate the books to the school libraries of their choosing.

Nottingham’s art teacher, Lindsay Ripley, assisted with the art project and the presentations to the trustees. The students’ nerves were calmed by seeing her familiar and friendly face as they came into the boardroom full of SBISD trustees, staff and community members.

“I want to thank Nottingham and the entire community, and the kids,” said Board President Josef Klam. “I can’t wait to hang my carrot up in my office. Every time I look at it, I will think about you guys.”

Trustee Pam Goodson clapped with glee as she received her framed art from Savannah Walla and as the student’s parents and others in the audience looked on with pride.

In appreciation for their tireless work to plant seeds of success in the district, the SBISD Board of Trustees were showered with thanks and… carrots!
