Westchester Academy seniors announce post-graduation plans during motivational ceremony

As the Class of 2022 gets ready to graduate, they are also making plans for their bright futures.

On Monday, May 16, seniors at Westchester Academy for International Studies announced what their plans are after receiving their high school diplomas. While on stage, students went up to the microphone and one by one revealed their hopes, dreams and plans for the future.

“This event is important, as it celebrates our students’ hard work and recognizes their choices,” said Valerie Hernandez, Westchester Academy director. “It also reinforces our district’s vision of T-2-4 success, because it shows that many of our seniors will attain a technical certificate, military training or a two-year or four-year degree.”

Students showed off their chosen institutions’ memorabilia as they made their announcements. Stanford University, Brown University, Tufts University, Houston Community College and Trinity University are among some of the schools being attended in the fall by these seniors.

The future graduates also mentioned whether they would be enlisting in the military or joining the workforce.

Family and friends were present to cheer the students on as they revealed their plans. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors were also part of the ceremony.

“We make sure our lower-grade levels have the opportunity to witness this event,” added Hernandez. “They get to see that there is an end goal and they should strive to obtain some form of higher education.”

As the event concluded, Westchester Assistant Director Alexia Greiner encouraged students to “strive for excellence and succeed.”
