Westwood Elementary celebrated the “My Home Library” event, a heartwarming initiative sponsored by the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
This event was one of several held across Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) this fall, all focused on providing our youngest readers with the opportunity to build their personal book collections. Through this initiative, SBISD supports its priority of promoting literacy, ensuring that students have the tools to engage with and enjoy reading from an early age.
The My Home Library program encourages literacy by allowing students to select books they can take home, fostering a deeper connection to learning and a sense of ownership over their educational journeys. Book titles are previewed and approved by the SBISD Academics team.
Thanks to the generosity of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and its ongoing partnership with SBISD, students were able to choose books that will ignite their imaginations and foster a love for reading. For many students, these books serve as their very own mini-library, creating excitement and a pathway to new worlds of discovery.
This impactful event was not limited to Westwood Elementary. Elementary schools across SBISD participated, creating a districtwide celebration of reading. Hundreds of books found new homes in the hands of young readers, sparking joy and curiosity throughout the community.
SBISD remains committed to empowering students through literacy as part of our broader educational mission. Initiatives like the My Home Library event, made possible by our partnership with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, align with SBISD’s focus on literacy as a priority forEvery Child. Together, we’re ensuring a bright future, one book at a time.
