Westwood Elementary School Hosts Career Day Extravaganza, Inspiring Future Leaders
 

 

Westwood Elementary School recently hosted a Career Day featuring a diverse panel of 30 professionals from various industries.

From NASA scientists to local firefighting heroes, and even a live Zoom session with a Disney manager from Florida, the event catered to Every Child's dream career interest.

The day kicked off with professionals sharing their personal journeys, shedding light on the educational requirements for their respective fields, and providing insights into the day-to-day realities of their jobs. Ceceilio Moreno, a seasoned realtor in the area, emphasized the notion that one's career path is often unpredictable, encouraging students to embrace the journey of self-discovery.

From nursing to military service, CAD design to law enforcement, the breadth of career options showcased left students eager to embark on their own career exploration.

Therapist Laura Tellez and Public Interest Attorney Jessica Moreno echoed similar sentiments, while Firefighter and EMT David Rodriguez captivated students and teachers with demonstrations of firefighting equipment and operations.

The lineup of speakers didn't stop there. Astros Broadcaster Francisco Romero added a touch of glamour to the event, showcasing his championship rings and sharing stories from his career in sports broadcasting. Meanwhile, Ana Somma Garcia, a Physician Assistant, offered a glimpse into the world of medicine.

The overarching message of the day? Success comes in many forms and it's essential for students to see themselves reflected in the diverse array of career paths available. Thelma Flores, Assistant Principal of the campus, emphasized the importance of exposing students to the opportunities that await them beyond the confines of their immediate surroundings.

"This event isn't just about showcasing career options; it's about broadening horizons and instilling a sense of possibility in our students," remarked Flores. "We want them to understand that the world is vast, and their potential is limitless."

Principal Criselda Chavez echoed Flores' sentiments, noting the exceptional support within her community, exemplified by the success of the day's events. She emphasized the vital importance of active engagement from both the community and families in shaping student success.
