Spring Branch Education Foundation has received a check for $6,000 from the Wilchester Men’s Club (WMC) to help retire meal-related debt incurred by Spring Branch ISD families who struggle to pay for school lunch.

David Dickey, WMC board member, says the gift is in keeping with the Club’s mission to support youth outreach, education and neighbors in need. “If you’re hungry, how will you learn?” Dickey asked. “We want to remove that stress.”

The donation was inspired by Kenny Thompson who launched and funded the SBISD Lunch Buddies program as a Valley Oaks Elementary mentor. By the WMC stepping in, Thompson can concentrate on his Feed the Future Forward program in other districts across the state.

Dickey says the Club’s goal is to completely extinguish the entirety of the lunchtime debt. “We’re all in. At our most recent meeting, we had several men eager to join because they had gone through school with similar struggles. We know this is just the first step of many to come.”

“The Wilchester Men’s Club has a huge heart for our students,” said Cece Thompson, SBEF executive director. “In the past few years, the men have funded scholarships that launch seniors into a successful future. This gift fuels students of all ages for a successful day of learning.”
