A select group of new college graduates, who were student teachers in Spring Branch ISD this year, recently attended a Signing Day event.

A lot of happy smiles and proud moments occurred as pens were picked up and signatures added to employment contracts – not only on the faces of 12 new SBISD teachers, but by Talent department leaders who had nurtured them along the pathway to this pivotal moment.
 

Some from the University of Houston had just attended their graduation ceremony the morning of the Signing Day event, so it was a doubly momentous day for them.

Based on the comments and recommendations from their supervising principals, student teachers from five university teaching programs in Texas were invited to the afternoon signing session. All 12 in attendance made the choice to begin their teaching careers with Spring Branch ISD next school year. A few others who were not able to attend the event were also expected to sign contracts in the coming days.

By signing a contract with the district during the event, they were guaranteed a teaching job for the 2021-22 school year once all credentialing was submitted

Three new teachers in this select group recently completed a two-year Relay Program cohort. In that program employees with bachelor’s degrees earn master’s degrees from the Relay Graduate School of Education while working alongside mentor teachers in Spring Branch ISD.

Teacher Recruiters Karen Cossey and Cheryl Weinserski were overjoyed to see so many student teachers in person at the signing event, after a year of virtual connections due to COVID-19. Likewise, the Relay cohort members, under the coordination of Talent Director Stacie Gibson, were happy to meet up with each other again, this time face-to-face.
