Student Support

Virtual School students can expect layers of support

  • Students are expected to take an online orientation session prior to their first virtual course.
  • Support via email from teachers will be accessible for students.
  • A Virtual Lab Monitor will provide site support with navigation and general use questions during the school day.

Program Supports

The Course Instructor

The Course Instructor is certified for the course and is responsible for providing instructional support for students, providing ancillary materials to enhance the course material, provide feedback on student progress, provide additional online tutoring/ for students in need, assigning grades, and awarding credit

The Virtual Lab Monitor

The Virtual Lab Monitor is responsible for taking attendance during virtual lab class periods, establishing and monitoring a productive classroom work environment, troubleshooting technology, communicating behavior and effort concerns to appropriate school personnel, coordinating additional support with the teachers of record. Proctor face-to-face exams.

Virtual School Facilitator

The Virtual School Facilitator recruits and hires teachers of record, coordinates training for teachers and liaisons, leads the program expansion effort, coordinates seat purchases with content providers, manages all Apex Learning and outside source reporting requirements, coordinates orientation activities, manages virtual school budget.

Virtual Course Creator

Select teachers will receive training on building quality virtual courses. New SBISD virtual courses will be created based on the Virtual School Expansion Plan. Virtual course creators will provide training for teachers of record.
