Hollibrook Elementary School hosted a dedication ceremony this week to celebrate the grand reopening of its newly refurbished SPARK Park.
The event was a special occasion for students, families, and local officials, marking a significant milestone in the school’s ongoing efforts to enhance community spaces.
SBISD Superintendent Jennifer Blaine welcomed families, community partners, and special guests to the campus and shared her excitement about the completion of this collaborative community project. Following the presentation of the colors by Hollibrook Elementary students, local leaders offered congratulations and presented Dr. Blaine and Hollibrook Principal Anabel Taylor with special recognition items commemorating the occasion. Elected representatives included:

SPARK Executive Director Kathleen Ownby addressed the crowd, expressing her gratitude for SPARK’s ongoing partnership with SBISD and individually thanking the staff, community members, and local organizations who contributed time and resources to make the revitalization a reality. These special honorees were also presented with Certificates of Recognition featuring one-of-a-kind artwork produced by Hollibrook students for the occasion.
The ceremony concluded with heartfelt words from Principal Taylor, who shared what the new play space means to the school and community. “As we prepare to cut the ribbon today, let’s take a moment to imagine all the laughter, the games, the friendships, and the creative play that will take place in this space. We are excited for the impact it will have on our students and on the future of Hollibrook Elementary,” said Taylor.
Guests then made their way outside to the SPARK playground and were joined by Hollibrook’s 5th-grade students. With smiles all around, Principal Taylor cut the ribbon and officially opened the park for public use. Afterward, everyone enjoyed a reception and took the opportunity to explore the park’s new features, which include updated play equipment, an outdoor classroom, and new exercise areas.
This revitalization effort, valued at $292,375, is a testament to the strong partnerships between Hollibrook Elementary, SPARK, and the local community. Since its founding in the 1980s, SPARK has created more than 200 community parks in 17 school districts across the Houston area.
The Hollibrook SPARK Park is now open to the public after school hours, on weekends, and during holidays, continuing the SPARK mission to provide recreational spaces for families and children across the city.
