Walk Bike & Roll to School (banner)

On Tuesday, October 8, SBISD students can join families, staff, and schools across the nation for Walk & Roll to School Day.

The event highlights the importance of safe, active, and fun ways to get to school—whether walking, biking, or rolling.

Why it Matters

  • Builds healthy habits and helps kids arrive ready to learn

  • Reduces traffic around schools and improves air quality

  • Reinforces traffic safety and independence

  • Inspires safer, more walkable communities

A Fun Way to Connect

Walk & Roll to School Day isn’t just about the trip—it’s about the people. Walking or biking together gives families, classmates, and neighbors a chance to connect before the school day begins. It’s a simple way to build school spirit, strengthen friendships, and create lasting memories.

Safety First — Every Day

“The event is a timely reminder for all of us to talk with our students about safety and to model safe habits ourselves,” said SBISD Chief of Police Larry Baimbridge. “Our goal is for students to travel to and from school in a safe manner—not just one day, but every day.”

Top 5 Safety Tips for Walk & Roll to School Day

  1. Use crosswalks and obey signals – Always look left, right, and left again before crossing.

  2. Walk, don’t run, across streets – Stay alert and make eye contact with drivers.

  3. Wear a helmet if biking or rolling – It’s the best protection against head injuries.

  4. Stay visible – Bright clothing or reflective gear helps motorists see you.

  5. Travel with others when possible – Walking or biking in groups is safer and more fun.
