Before the first bell rings and long after the last one sounds, they are there.
School crossing guards are often the first face a student sees in the morning and the last wave they receive in the afternoon. In the heat, the cold, the wind and the rain, they stand with one purpose: keeping students and families safe.
Their role goes beyond directing traffic.
They learn names.
They notice who needs a little encouragement.
They offer a steady presence at the start and end of every day.
In those quick exchanges on the corner, a smile, a reminder to look both ways, a simple “Have a great day,” they help set the tone for what school feels like.
To our crossing guards, thank you.
We see you.
We appreciate you.
Our community is better because of you.
