Dr. Hernandez brings 33 years of experience in education, including 20 years serving the SBISD community. Most recently, she served as director of Westchester Academy for International Studies (WAIS), where she helped lead one of the district's premier choice campuses.

Throughout her career, she has served as a teacher, counselor and campus administrator across every grade level from kindergarten through 12th grade, building a reputation for collaborative leadership and an unwavering commitment to supporting students, staff and families.

In her new role, Dr. Hernandez will oversee Student Support Services, including Career and Technical Education (CTE), Special Education, Section 504 and Dyslexia Services, partnering with campuses to ensure every student has the support and opportunities needed to thrive.

"I believe in the potential of all our students and will always work with each stakeholder to be solution-oriented and find ways to help them succeed," Hernandez said.

As the new school year begins, Dr. Hernandez's priority is ensuring every student feels seen, valued and connected.

"When educators truly know their students, students feel more supported and cared for," she said. "That connection helps them thrive."

Dr. Hernandez describes her leadership style as collaborative, believing that success is achieved through the collective efforts of a dedicated team. She credits the students and educators she has worked alongside throughout her career as her greatest source of inspiration.

"SBISD is an excellent place for students, families and staff," Hernandez said. "Together, we provide students with the strongest supports to be successful, and our results in academics, athletics and fine arts are evidence of how exceptional SBISD is."

Outside of work, Dr. Hernandez enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with family and friends.
