There was plenty to celebrate at Spring Branch Elementary (SBE) as students, families and staff gathered for Popsicles with the Principal, marking the start of a new school year and a milestone anniversary for one of Spring Branch ISD's most historic campuses.
The event welcomed families back to campus while introducing new Principal Mandy Ruiz, whose leadership centers on building meaningful relationships with students, staff and the community.
"My great-grandmother showed me what it means to love a community through education," Ruiz said when she joined the campus. "That is the legacy I hope to continue at Spring Branch Elementary."
This school year is especially meaningful as both SBE and Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) celebrate 80 years.
Opened in 1946, SBE has served generations of families and remains at the heart of the community it helped build. That legacy is woven throughout the campus, from historic photographs lining the halls to timelines embedded in the floors that tell the story of eight decades of learning, growth and excellence. Every corner reflects a tradition of serving students while inspiring the next generation.
That legacy continues today. Over the past several years, the campus has demonstrated strong academic growth, reflecting the commitment of its educators, students and families to continuous improvement and high expectations. SBE continues to build on that momentum by creating a learning environment where every student is supported to achieve at high levels.
"Spring Branch Elementary has such a rich history, but what excites me most is its future," Ruiz said. "I'm honored to be part of a school community that cares so deeply about its students and each other."
The event reflected more than the start of a new school year: it showcased the strong sense of belonging that has defined SBE for eight decades and continues to make it a place where students can thrive.
As SBISD celebrates 80 years of inspiring minds and shaping lives, SBE remains a powerful example of what is possible when a school and its community grow together.
