State recognition comes as SBISD ranks in the 96th percentile among comparable Texas districts and remains the only Texas district named a national “District on the Rise”
HOUSTON — Sept. 4, 2026 — Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) received statewide recognition in Austin Friday for its sustained academic growth and success strengthening student performance in reading and math.
During the Sept. 4 Texas State Board of Education meeting, SBISD was honored with a resolution from State Sen. Paul Bettencourt and a proclamation from State Board of Education Chair Aaron Kinsey, District 15, and Secretary Will Hickman, District 6.
The recognitions highlighted the district’s success strengthening student achievement in reading and math, with the resolution extending recognition to SBISD students, faculty, administrators and staff for their contributions to the district’s continued academic progress.
The honors cap a significant week for SBISD. The district recently announced it reached the 96th percentile in Relative Performance among comparable Texas school districts, its highest ranking since the Texas Education Agency began tracking the measure. SBISD has climbed from the 54th percentile in 2015 to the 96th percentile today.
SBISD is the only school district in Texas named a “District on the Rise” by the Education Scorecard, a national research initiative from Harvard University. Just 108 of more than 14,300 districts nationwide earned the distinction for continued gains in both reading and math at a more accelerated rate than their peers.
“This recognition is another confirmation that our focus on what matters most for students is paying off,” said Dr. Jennifer Blaine, SBISD Superintendent of Schools. “We have been intentional about focusing on literacy and numeracy and providing the supports students need to succeed. These results reflect the extraordinary work of our teachers, principals, staff and students and our commitment to doing what is right for Every Child.”

The Education Scorecard highlighted SBISD’s focus on research-based instruction, data-driven practices, early literacy and numeracy and strong instructional leadership as key contributors to the district’s progress.
From statewide performance to national recognition, the latest results point to a sustained trajectory of academic growth in SBISD and a continued focus on ensuring every student is prepared for what comes next.
