Tax Rate

At their Sept. 28 regular meeting, the Spring Branch ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted 7-0 to adopt a 2026-2027 tax rate of $1.05630 per $100 of taxable value.

The district's total tax rate is comprised of two components: the Maintenance and Operations (M&O), tax rate, which supports the district's General Fund, and the Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate, which supports payments on the district's bonded debt.

For 2026-2027:

  • The M&O tax rate is $0.71180 per $100 of taxable value, a decrease of 0.68 cents from last year's $0.71860 rate. The decrease reflects state-mandated school district tax-rate compression associated with changes in property values.

  • The I&S tax rate is $0.34450 per $100 of taxable value, an increase of 4.0 cents from last year's $0.30450 rate. The increase reflects the district's implementation of the 2025 Bond Program, approved by voters in May 2025. This is the first increase in the district's debt service tax rate since the passage of the 2007 Bond Program.

Together, the two components result in a total SBISD tax rate of $1.05630 per $100 of taxable value, compared with $1.02310 last year. This represents a 3.32-cent increase per $100 of taxable value.

The actual impact on an individual property owner's tax bill will depend on the taxable value of the property, as determined by the Harris Central Appraisal District, as well as applicable exemptions.

SBISD continues to provide the tax exemptions available to the district under state law, including the 20% local optional homestead exemption. In addition, the school district tax levy for homeowners receiving an over-65 or disabled-person exemption remains frozen, subject to applicable law.
